State police report six crash fatalities during Christmas weekend

State police investigated 10,007 vehicle crashes including six involving fatalities during the five-day Christmas weekend from Dec. 24-28. Impaired driving was a factor in 53 crashes, and 207 people were arrested for driving under the influence, police said Wednesday.

Police said the six fatalities occurred in four crashes that did not involve impaired driving, and there was a total of 137 injury related crashes across the state.

Troopers cited 1,502 people for speeding, 155 people for failing to wear a seat belt and 10 for not securing children in safety seats. In addition, 4,202 other citations were issued.

During last year’s three-day Christmas weekend, one person was killed in 598 crashes. There were 92 injury related crashes, 27 DUI related crashes, 128 DUI arrests and no DUI related fatal crashes. Troopers issued 805 speeding citations, 13 child safety seat citations, 90 seat belt citations and 3,009 other citations.
