U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-16th, recognized Butler County native and former University of Notre Dame quarterback Terry Hanratty on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives following Hanratty’s recent induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Kelly, who played high school and college football with Hanratty, praised him as one of Notre Dame’s all-time greats and highlighted his impact both on and off the field. Hanratty was inducted during a ceremony earlier this month in Las Vegas.

Hanratty, a consensus First Team All-American in 1968, led Notre Dame to a 24-4-2 record during his three seasons as a starting quarterback, including a share of the 1966 national title. He went on to play eight seasons in the NFL, including seven with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Kelly also used the speech to recognize former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher and World Series champion Vernon Law for being inducted into the Pirates Hall of Fame in August.
