Johnstown man sentenced for forgery, bad checks

A Johnstown man was sentenced Thursday, Dec. 4, in Butler County Common Pleas Court for forgery and bad checks charges filed by Adams Township police and state police, and a resisting arrest charge filed by Evans City police.

David McCormick, 37, was sentenced to concurrently serve 2 to 23.5 months in the Butler County Prison after pleading guilty to charges of bad checks and forgery followed by 12 months of probation after pleading guilty to resisting arrest.

In addition, Judge Joseph Kubit ordered McCormick to pay $940 restitution in the bad checks case, $521 in restitution to Chuck Kennedy’s Auto Sales of Mars in the forgery case and $1,080 to Evans City police for resisting arrest.

The sentence also included a combined 60 hours of community service and a mental health evaluation. McCormick was given credit for time he already served in jail.

State police said McCormick wrote fraudulent checks on Jan. 14 for $7,000 and $1,600 in Evans City. He pleaded guilty to writing bad checks in the case.

On April 14, Adams Township police said McCormick attempted to use bad checks for $7,000 and $480 in a sale. He pleaded guilty to forgery in that case.

Evans City police charged McCormick with criminal mischief, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct following a May 7 incident. He pleaded guilty to resisting arrest.
