The shot clock is coming to Pennsylvania high school basketball.

The PIAA approved on a third and final reading the implementation of a 35-second shot clock across the state beginning in the 2028-29 season during Wednesday’s board of directors meeting, according to media reports.

Currently, 31 states and Washington, D.C. use a shot clock, which is permitted by the National Federation of State High School Associations. The PIAA has flirted with adopting a shot clock for several years, most recently voting down a proposal in the summer to implement it ahead of this season, deciding the timeline was too short to give school districts the ability to budget for and install them.

In a Butler Eagle Basketball Media Day Player poll, 30 of 39 local athletes surveyed said they were for a shot clock. The yeses will get there way in two years.
