Former Cranberry Township nanny accused of identity theft

A woman in Cranberry Township accused her former nanny of opening fraudulent accounts in her name, police said.

Alyssa Lynn Gartner, 22, of Cranberry Township, was charged Tuesday, Oct. 28, with misdemeanor identity theft following an Aug. 17 report.

Police were made aware of the potential identity theft when a woman reported her former nanny opened a T-Mobile account in her name.

Police said the woman was notified of the identity theft by an anonymous message on Instagram. The woman then confirmed an account was opened in her name on July 24.

An Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max worth $1,199.99, an Apple iPad A16 worth $499.99, an Apple pencil worth $79.99 and a Kate Spade phone case worth $49.99 were purchased using the account along with service plans for the iPhone and iPad.

The woman recognized the phone number associated with the T-Mobile account as her former nanny’s, police said.

Police executed search warrants for T-Mobile records and found Gartner, her mother, family and friends had all been linked to the account.

Gartner’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 5 before District Judge Kevin Flaherty.
