Annual fall event provides early Halloween activity

The Cranberry Township Municipal Center will be open for people to eat, drink and be scary on Friday, Oct. 24.

The township’s Great Pumpkin Festival has become a popular annual activity for families to get a little taste of Halloween early. The festival takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the municipal center, 2525 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township, and is a chance for families to pick treats, make a craft, play games, enjoy munchies and choose the perfect pumpkin. The event is geared toward children ages 1 to 8.

Additionally, the festival offers a “Sensory Hour,” from 5 to 6 p.m. The sensory hour will feature all the same activities from the general session, including pumpkin picking, crafts, costumes, a photo booth, games and activities, but will be a “much smaller group so guests can move around the event at their own pace.”

“The Sensory Hour ensures that every child can experience the magic of the Great Pumpkin Festival in a calm and comfortable way,” Tina Fedko, director of communications at Cranberry Township, said. “By offering a quieter space and extra time, we’re giving families the chance to explore, engage and enjoy the festivities at their own pace.”

The festival is organized by Cranberry Township Parks and Recreation Department and the Cranberry Public Library. Registration is required, and can be completed by visiting cranberry4fun.com. The cost is $15 for township residents, and $20 for non-residents.
