CRANBERRY TWP — Butler County businesses are typically competing for customers and market share in a growing community.

But on Thursday evening, Oct. 9, the individuals who help those businesses flourish were involved in a different kind of competition.

The Southern Butler County Business Association brought a mix of 16 businesses and nonprofits to Fun Fore All Family Fun Park for the inaugural Battle of the Businesses, an event aimed at friendly competition, networking and fundraising.

“One of the main factors of our organization being in this area is to make sure that we showcase the different organizations and proprietors and what their services have to offer,” said Will Dimond, who serves as the event chair for the organization. “So when there was an opportunity of bringing all the different businesses that we have into one place, I couldn’t think of anything better than to have it here at Fun Fore All.”

Teams were broken up into divisions to compete against one another in go-kart racing, duckpin bowling, mini golf and Skee-Ball. The point totals were then added up, and the winning business received a trophy. More than 50 people participated.

The event also featured prizes, a 50/50 and raffle baskets. A portion of the proceeds went to the Cranberry Foundation, formerly known as Cranberry Township Community Chest.

“Being able to make a great contribution to the Cranberry Foundation is really important to us and all of the great work that they do,” Dimond added.

Dimond said the organization had no issues selling out the tournament during the planning process.

“The feedback was positive from the beginning,” he said. “To have groups so eager to want to participate for something that really didn’t exist before this is pretty cool.”

For Fun Fore All, a community staple for nearly 30 years, the event was a welcomed opportunity to show support.

“Obviously, we don’t exist without the community,” said longtime owner Chris Camp. “For us to be able to do something like this to help give back and be a part of helping the foundation, it’s what we’re here for. It’s an honor that our business does well enough that we’re able to give back and do stuff like this.”
