Adams Township sergeant among 18 police officers being recognized for actions at Trump rally

Adams Township police Sgt. Aaron Zaliponi is among 18 officers being honored by Amen Corner, a Pittsburgh non-partisan civic organization, for their actions during the July 13, 2024, attempt to assassinate then-candidate President Donald Trump when he appeared at the Butler Farm Show.

Zaliponi is credited with being the first law enforcement officer to engage and disrupt the shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, and potentially saving other lives at the event.

Trump’s ear was grazed by a bullet, but Buffalo Township resident and firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed and two other spectators suffered nonfatal gunshot wounds.

Zaliponi and the other officers are being recognized by Amen Corner at its 24th annual Senator John Heinz Law Enforcement Awards Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 in the Doubletree Hotel Ballroom in Green Tree.

The other officers being honored are from Pittsburgh, Baldwin, Cranberry Township, New Kensington, Penn Hills, Ross Township, South Park Township, Upper St. Clair and Whitehall.

The Amen Corner Law Enforcement Awardees will receive a police statue sculpted by Pittsburgh artist Susan Wagner.
