Dozens of Seneca Valley students recently stepped outside the classroom for lessons in Holocaust education and remembrance.

On Sept. 10, 57 high school students and history teacher Jim Lucot attended a presentation at Rodef Shalom Congregation in Pittsburgh by Holocaust survivor Marion Ein Lewin, who shared her story of survival at Bergen-Belsen with her twin brother, Steven. They are thought to be the only surviving twins of the Holocaust. Marion also offered to send each student a copy of her book, Inseparable.

A week later, on Sept. 17, seventh- and eighth-grade PURPOSE students from Ryan Gloyer Middle School attended a documentary screening presented through Teen Screen and the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh at the Harris Theater in Pittsburgh.

As part of the outing, Lee Goldman Kikel, daughter of a Holocaust survivor, and Carol Black, a survivor of the Tree of Life synagogue shooting, shared their stories and addressed the importance of combating antisemitism.
