Like in the first case, the juvenile told police he had began staying overnight at Mitchell’s Adams Township residence two to three years ago. The boy recalled two instances where he awoke with an indication of the assault, with the most recent incident occurring four to five weeks ago, police said.
The boy told police on both occasions, Mitchell gave him an unidentified gummy. The gummy reportedly came from a Motts package but had a different taste and texture than Motts gummies the boy ate in the past. The boy added Mitchell would only give him one gummy.
The boy told police he feels he falls asleep quicker after taking the gummy than he would at home, and he never feels like he did at Mitchell’s when waking up at home.
In the first incident, the boy said slept on the couch after Mitchell gave him a gummy. The boy told police he awoke during the night with an indication of assault.
In the second incident, the boy told police Mitchell had set up a makeshift bed on the floor similar to the one identified in the first case. Police said Mitchell was on the couch when the boy fell asleep, but when the boy awoke, Mitchell was on the floor beside him.
The boy told police he awoke with the same indication of assault. The boy told police he “felt weird about it.”
Police said, like in the first case, Mitchell would straddle and tickle the boy on his ribs and occasionally touch the boy over his clothing. Police said the boy thought it was an accident the first time until it kept happening.
Mitchell would also call the boy’s name, hug him and tickle him when the boy visited Mitchell’s residence, according to the affidavit. The boy also told police Mitchell would touch his stomach and butt during hugs.
Mitchell was affiliated with Mars Youth Football, where he is banned from all program activities. He was placed on leave at the Adams Area Fire District, where he served as a firefighter and EMT, and at Quality EMS, where he served part time as an EMT.
He was employed as the director of cardiology elsewhere, according to Mitchell’s testimony. The name of his employer was not mentioned at the hearing, but Mitchell testified that he travels to Allegheny and Westmoreland counties for work.
A man named Nathan Mitchell had been a practice administrator for pulse cardiology in San Bernardino County, Calif., after graduating from American Career College-Ontario, according to a 2016 article posted by the college.
Mitchell was first charged in early September with three felony counts each of corruption of minors and child endangerment, two felony counts each of sexual assault by a sports official and indecent assault of a person less than 13, three misdemeanor counts of indecent assault, two misdemeanor counts of indecent assault of an impaired person and misdemeanor indecent assault of a person less than 13.
All charges against Mitchell were held for court. As part of his bond agreement, Mitchell is on electronic monitoring and may not have contact with any minors, including his own children.
According to a report by TMZ, Joshua Nathan Werkman was the CEO of Merimark Entertainment and the manager of actors Dylan and Cole Sprouse. At a September preliminary hearing, a state trooper said Mitchell previously went by “Joshua Nathan Werkman.”
Mitchell’s preliminary hearing related to the new charges will be held before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz. It has not yet been scheduled.
