Charges filed in Jackson Township park gunfire incident

Jackson Township police filed charges Friday against three 19-year-old men following a report of gunshots in Porter Cove Park in August.

Jacob L. Weston, of Evans City, was charged with a felony count of firearms not to be carried without a license; misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment, propulsion of missiles onto roads, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia; and six summary offenses.

Aidan M. Langer, of Cranberry Township, was charged with misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, propulsion of missiles onto roads and disorderly conduct; and two summary offenses.

Jaxon F. Dennis, of Zelienople, was charged with misdemeanors possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, and a summary offense.

Police were dispatched to the park just before 10 p.m. Aug. 16 for a report of gunshots in the area. The caller reported seeing a car in the park with its lights on. Upon arrival, officers found three people in two parked vehicles and several spent .22-caliber cartridges on the ground and questioned the occupants.

Weston told police he fired a .22-caliber rifle into a mulch pile. Officers found three rifles and several beer cans in his vehicle and smelled the odor of marijuana. He told police there was medical marijuana in the vehicle and he has a medical marijuana card, according to an affidavit.

Officers obtained a search warrant and searched Weston’s vehicle at the police station, finding firearms, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia, according to the affidavit.

Langer told police he fire three shots from two of the rifles toward the mulch pile that was in the direction of Hartmann Road, according to an affidavit.

Dennis told police he didn’t fire any of the guns and didn’t see who did because he was in one of the vehicles using his phone. He consented to a search of his backpack where officers found a small amount of marijuana, a grinder and a glass pipe, according to an affidavit.
