No bombs found at SRU following threat

Slippery Rock University police swept the campus and found no threats Tuesday, Sept. 2, after a bomb threat.

According to SRU’s website, the threat was a suspected swatting attempt, which is where a prank phone call is made to emergency services in an attempt to dispatch a large number of armed police officers to a particular area.

“The university will continue its investigation and remain in contact with federal agencies to attempt to identify the source of the threat and will remain hypervigilant in our efforts to protect our community,” the university said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

The university said the threat came around 10:25 a.m. and was debunked by noon.

It said if the threat were credible, the university would have activated the RockAlerts emergency notification system for further instruction.

University police are assessing the situation. They immediately reported the threat to federal agencies while they conducted a thorough search of all campus buildings and grounds.
