Cranberry man charged with sexual abuse of child, distributing video

A 33-year-old Cranberry Township man was charged Tuesday, Aug. 26, after police said he confessed to performing a sexual act with a 10-year-old boy and recording it.

Cameron J. Villanti was charged with felony counts of sexual intercourse with a child, filming a sexual act with a child, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, and corruption of minors. He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of indecent exposure.

According to the charging affidavit, the Cranberry Township police were first alerted to the situation after a report of a child sexual assault from the Erie City police. An investigation from that agency revealed a video recording of a 10-year-old child performing a sexual act on a man later identified as Villanti.

During an interview with police, Villanti admitted that he was the man depicted in the video, that the video was filmed in the bathroom of his apartment on Brandt Drive in Cranberry Township, that it was recorded on his cellphone, that he sent a clip of the video to the boy through a smart watch, and that he sent “sexually explicit messages” to the child and was planning future sexual acts.

In addition, on Aug. 21, Villanti was arrested and charged in Erie County with felony counts of dissemination of explicit sexual material to minors and unlawful contact with minors involving sexual offenses. He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of corruption of minors.

Villanti is in Butler County Prison on $500,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled at 10 a.m. Sept. 12 at District Judge Kevin J. Flaherty’s office.
