Six recent graduates of Seneca Valley Senior High School will head to college with additional financial support thanks to the Rotary Club of Zelienople, which awarded $9,000 in scholarships over the summer.

Each student received $1,500 in recognition of their academic achievements, community involvement and future goals.

Four students earned the club’s Doc Viola Community Service Scholarship, which honors volunteerism as well as scholastic success.

Among them is Ella Lange, who will attend the University of Pittsburgh to study occupational therapy. A pursuit inspired by her time volunteering with Miracle League.

Mark McConahy will study business at Michigan State University.

Isabella Muthler, who will attend Pitt, plans to pursue biology with hopes of continuing into medical research or medical school.

Ava Platt, bound for Westminster College, will major in early and special education with a writing minor, a career path shaped by her own experiences in the Intermediate Unit.

The Lutz Journalism Scholarship was awarded to Natalia Verdi, who will study public relations and comparative politics at West Virginia University. She hopes to one day serve as a political adviser in Washington, D.C.

Joseph Gaudet earned the Norbert L. Belsterling Vocational Scholarship. He will study construction electricity at Rosedale Technical College in Pittsburgh after playing soccer and serving in the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps at Seneca Valley.

The students were presented their awards in July at a Rotary picnic.
