United Way helps stock Butler County schools
United Way volunteers helped pack 10,000 school supply kits that will be distributed to students at schools in school districts including Butler Area, Knoch and Freeport Area at the start of the school year.
The annual Tools for Schools initiative is designed to equip early learners with the supplies they need to succeed and the kits include basics, such as pencils, markers, crayons, erasers, folders and a pencil case, according to a news release from the United Way. School districts and elementary schools from across United Way’s five-county service area picked up the kits on Aug. 14 for distribution to students.
Since 2020, United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania has delivered school supply kits to more than 56,000 students through Tools for Schools.
United Way also provides ongoing funding and needs-based grants to local education-focused agencies, according to the agency. It’s new Beyond the Classroom rapid response grants opened to previous United Way grant recipients on July 1 and will provide funding for out-of-school providers to address unexpected needs. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis as funds are available.
