HZ Jazz Band playing Horse Trading Days
Horse Trading Days again will have musical entertainment by a 15-piece band, which will set the tone for the annual Zelienople community festival.
Geoff Zimmerman, a tenor saxophone player with HZ Jazz Band, said the band has played the event for the past several years, which is enjoyable for all of its musicians. The music the band performs include jazz standards, as well as music arranged to fit a big band’s style.
“We also play contemporary stuff,” Zimmerman said. “Big band versions of songs that you might not expect.”
The band will start its set at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, at the Passavant House Gazebo. Zimmerman said the concert is a performance people can sit and enjoy, and likely hear some songs they recognize over the course of the evening.
The group is led by vocalist and saxophonist Andrew Karns, whom Zimmerman said is an accomplished musician.
Karns will lead the band through arrangements, which Zimmerman said are entertaining and fun to perform.
“Our list has classics from Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Gershwin,” Zimmerman said. “We also play some newer Jazz songs, and rock songs from James Brown and the Beatles.”
