GetGo sold, Giant Eagle looks ahead

Cranberry Township based grocery chain Giant Eagle announced it has sold all 270 of its GetGo gas stations and convenience store locations across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana, to Canadian based Alimentation Couche-Tard, the parent company of Circle K.

Despite the ownership change from the $1.6 billion deal, the GetGo name, locations, food offerings and perks programs are all staying the same.

GetGo will retain all of its 3,500 employees, both corporate and in-store.

Giant Eagle said it plans to reinvest in the grocery and pharmacy business. Over the past few months, Giant Eagle has purchase of pharmacy records from about 80 bankrupt Rite Aid locations in Pennsylvania and Ohio and plans to reopen at least two Rite Aid locations as Giant Eagle pharmacies.
