State police see fewer crashes, more DUI arrests over Memorial Day weekend

State police reported a decrease in crashes, but an increase in impaired driving arrests over Memorial Day weekend.

Police reported 756 crashes and 519 driving under the influence arrests over the weekend from May 23-26 on roads patrolled by state police. During last year’s Memorial Day weekend, police reported 849 crashes and 456 DUI arrests.

Crash statistics for this year’s weekend show four fatal crashes, five people killed, 140 people injured, 57 DUI-related crashes and two DUI-related crash fatalities. Enforcement statistics show 7,033 speeding citations, 166 child seat citations, 977 seat belt citations and 18,963 other citations were issued.

Last year, there were five fatal crashes, six people killed, 164 people injured, 40 DUI-related crashes, two DUI-related crash fatalities, 9,006 speeding citations, 162 child seat citations, 1,167 seat belt citations and 17,148 other citations.
