Shields Paving drivers set up GoFundMe for injured driver
Employees of Shields Asphalt Paving are raising money through GoFundMe for a co-worker who is recovering from serious injuries he sustained in an on-the-job accident.
Ron McKelvey, who works as a triaxle driver for Shields, was involved in a rollover crash on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township on Thursday morning, May 1. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he underwent surgery the following day.
According to the GoFundMe page, which went live on Tuesday, McKelvey remains in intensive care at AGH. The GoFundMe seeks to raise funds to offset the McKelvey family’s hospital bills, as well as lost wages and other expenses.
“As anyone who knows Ron can tell you, he’s a hardworking, kindhearted individual who would give the shirt off his back to help someone else,” the post reads. “Now, it’s our turn to support him.”
As of Thursday, May 8, the GoFundMe has collected $2,200, 22% of its goal of $10,000, from 19 donations. No single person is taking credit for starting the fundraiser, with the GoFundMe page credited to “Drivers at Shields Asphalt Paving.”
