Evans City approves paving bids, stormwater grant application
EVANS CITY — Members of Evans City Council took action on several items involving infrastructure during their monthly meeting Monday, May 5.
The first of those involved paving bids for Hill Street and Highland Avenue. Two bids were submitted to council, one by Wiest Paving for $65,801 and the other by Shields Paving for $63,546.
After debating the $2,255 difference between the offers, council members approved Wiest Paving’s offer, citing “previous exceptional work” as the reason.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation estimated paving costs for the two projects to be $68,552, while the liquid fuels allocation for this year came in at $52,028.37.
To cover the difference, the borough will use the remaining balance in the liquid fuels budget and take a portion from the general fund. Those two projects are slated to take place sometime during the summer months.
Additionally, council members approved a grant application to the PA Small Water and Sewer Program. They are seeking $425,000 for stormwater improvements, which would require a 15% borough match of $75,000.
According to the state’s website, eligible projects under the grant program are those which have a total project cost of no less than $30,000 and no more than $500,000.
There is no set date as to when the borough will find out whether its application is successful. Because of that, the application did not refer to any specific parts of the borough that would receive work.
In other business, members approved up to $2,000 to order a new borough office computer with more storage.
