Commissioners approve bid for accessible trail project at Alameda Park

A more accessible trail could be added at Alameda Park in Butler Township later this year.

At a Wednesday, May 8 meeting, the Butler County Commissioners awarded the up to $102,486 project to Holbein Inc., a company out of Sarver.

When installed, the one-third mile trail will loop around the park’s multi-use field near the volleyball courts. It will comply with the U.S. Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to Wendy Leslie, CDBG coordinator, the base cost for the loop trail was bid at $80,170, with the final bid price including two “alternates,” or potential walkways to conveniently access the trail costing an additional $9,721 and $12,593. The alternates are options that the contractor may or may not complete during the project.

The project will be covered by a Community Development Block Grant. The grant will cover the entirety of the project, according to Leslie, so no county funds will be required.

A total of six bids were received electronically through PennBid, Leslie said.

If construction begins this year, it will be in the fall, according to park officials.

Holbein submitted the second-lowest bid. According to solicitor Julie Graham, the contractor that submitted the lowest bid did not provide all the required documentation.
