Scout earns Eagle Scout with Glade Run Lake safety station
Glade Run Lake has some new safety features thanks to an Eagle Scout project.
Patrick Quinn, a 15-year-old sophomore at Mars Area High School and member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 400 in Mars, recently installed a new Drowning Mitigation & Water Safety Station at the lake as his Eagle Scout Service Project. It was completed Sept. 26.
Quinn and several members of Troop 400 designed the station to provide visitors with important water-safety information while also making emergency rescue equipment readily accessible in the event of an unexpected incident.
The station includes a weather-resistant information board featuring drowning-prevention tips, emergency instructions and water-safety rules, along with a mounted throwable life ring and other emergency-response equipment. Signage was also installed to make the station clearly visible from the waterfront.
