A former physical therapist associated with the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex was sentenced Thursday, Sept. 3, in Butler County Common Pleas Court for stealing oxycodone from a Cranberry Township patient’s home.

Trevor Raymond Delaney, 43, of Zelienople, was given a sentence of time served to 23 1/2 months in prison and was paroled to serve four months on house arrest. He was also fined $300 after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of theft by unlawful taking. The sentence imposed by Judge Maura Palumbi also requires Delaney to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and to continue with drug treatment programs and steps to maintain sobriety.

Police initially charged Delaney with felony possession of a controlled substance by fraud or deception and one misdemeanor count each of theft, receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.

A Cranberry Township woman told township police she was supposed to have an appointment with Delaney on Sept. 30 at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, but Delaney called off sick. The woman told police Delaney called her and asked to come to her residence that day to discuss medical test results.

The woman said while Delaney was at her residence, she received a call from the sports complex to reschedule the appointment. Delaney reportedly told the woman not to tell UPMC staff he was at her residence, according to police.

While at the residence, Delaney asked to see the woman’s medications, including the oxycodone, police said. The oxycodone was left on a kitchen table when the woman returned her other medications to the bathroom, police said. Delaney left the residence shortly after.

The woman said when she went to take her pill that night, she counted 41 pills were missing. She told police Delaney was the only other person in her apartment that day.

In an interview with police, Delaney said he was at the woman’s residence during an undocumented incident and did not tell his employer.

Delaney was terminated from UPMC a year ago, according to a spokesperson.
