Joseph A. Jansen Jr., 75, of Middlesex Township, Valencia, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, in the comfort of his home, peacefully in his sleep, of heart failure.

Born on Aug. 28, 1948, in West Berlin, during the Berlin airlift, he was the son of the late Col. Joseph A. Jansen Sr. and Emily Regan Jansen. His father was an engineer officer with the U.S. Army, building and extending airfields.

Active with the Boy Scouts of America, Joe hiked the Tooth of Time Mountain at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico as a teen, and led a troop from Houston, Texas, to do the same in the 1970s. Joe became an adult participant in conservation at the district level of the Boy Scouts in Pennsylvania.

Joe was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in chemistry and held a master’s degree from the University of Houston, Texas. He did analytical chemistry with computer automation for the Penreco Petroleum Plant in Karns City.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Linda Hood Jansen; three brothers, Paul Jansen (Melissa) of Rome, Ga., Tom Jansen of Herndon, Va., and Bob Jansen (Ann) in Virginia; and a sister, Anne Wardinski (Paul) of Burke, Va.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Mark Jansen in 2013; and by a sister-in-law, Carol Jansen in 2021.

JANSEN — Arrangements for Joseph A. Jansen Jr., who died Wednesday, April 10, 2024, are private under the direction of MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.
