Butler grad Bocci
gets swim honor
LOCK HAVEN — Butler graduate David Bocci, a freshman at Clarion University, has been named PSAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
Bocci won the 200-meter freestyle and 200 butterfly in a dual meet against Edinboro. He also swam a leg of the Golden Eagles’ winning 200 free relay. Bocci currently holds the top time in the PSAC in in the 500 free at 4 minutes, 30.17 seconds. That is a Clarion record as well.
DeMatteis among top
PSAC softball players
LOCK HAVEN — Led by Moniteau graduate Kennedy DeMatteis’ pitching prowess, Gannon is picked to finish second in the PSAC West in the preseason softball coaches poll.
DeMatteis was 14-9 last season with a 2.26 earned run average and 111 strikeouts.
Seton Hill is picked to win the West, followed by Gannon, California, Indiana, Mercyhurst, Edinboro, Clarion, Slippery Rock and Pitt-Johnstown.
SRU’s Goodman named
top field athlete
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior Jason Goodman has been named PSAC Men’s Indoor Track Field Athlete of the Week.
Goodman won the seven-event heptathlon at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational last weekend with an NCAA provisional score of 4,924 points. He is the only multi-event athlete in the PSAC to top 4,900 points this season.
