Clinton Township supervisors have a contractor for renovation of the bridge on Victory Road.

At the supervisors meeting on Wednesday night, March 13, the contract for the renovation was awarded to Ohio company U.S. Bridge, the only bidder, which submitted a bid of $130,900.

Township manager Ashley Kohley said the superstructure of the bridge will be given an overhaul. The contract calls for a new galvanized steel superstructure with a concrete deck and new guide rail.

Inspections from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation — the most recent of which occurred in 2022 — indicate the bridge’s underlying cross beams were at risk of failure in the near future.

On PennDOT’s bridge inspection map, the Victory Road bridge is listed as red for “poor condition,” and the most recent inspection lists the bridge as “structurally deficient,” with the superstructure noted as a “serious” concern.

“The cross beams are failing underneath the bridge itself,” Kohley said. “It’s still safe to use.”

The Victory Road bridge is located near the border between Clinton and Middlesex townships and takes motorists over Davis Run. According to PennDOT records, the bridge was built in 1952 and is 26 feet long.

The contractor indicated they expect to start work on the project in September unless there are delays in procuring the necessary materials, in which case the project would be delayed to 2025.

No plans have been drawn up yet for how motorists will be redirected when the renovation begins.
