Man sentenced in gun incident

A Butler man was sentenced Thursday to up to three years in prison and ordered to pay more than $4,000 in restitution for firing a rifle into a neighboring apartment last year.

Nathan T. Ferraro, 33, was sentenced to serve 18 months to 36 months in state prison followed by 12 months of probation and pay $4,188 in restitution after pleading guilty to felony discharging a firearm into an occupied structure filed by Butler City police.

Just before 2 a.m. April 4, police said they responded to a report of shots fired at the East Jefferson Street Apartments, and heard several shots when they arrived.

A man later identified as Ferraro was spotted leaving the building and walking between houses on College Street, and a motion sensor-activated light revealed he was holding a rifle, police said.

Police ordered him to drop his weapon, and he was taken into custody without incident.

The gun was a .22-caliber Henry Arms rifle loaded with five rounds. An additional 43 live rounds were found in Ferraro’s possession, police said.

Police discovered two of Ferraro’s apartment windows had bullet holes in them, and they recovered 28 spent rounds and additional live rounds.

According to a release from police, Ferraro also built two barricades in and around his apartment.

Upon investigating the caller’s apartment on the floor under Ferraro’s apartment, police found three of her windows were shot through, including a bedroom window.

Common Pleas Court Judge Timothy McCune imposed the sentence.
