It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley D. (Herzer) Hammel of Middlesex Township on Monday, Feb. 26, 2024.

A gracious and beautiful woman, Shirley was born Oct. 2, 1935, in Pittsburgh. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Amelia Herzer.

Shirley was a retired cosmetician, working almost her entire career at Thrift Drug and Eckerd Drug. Shirley had been a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Parish, Holy Sepulcher Church, for more than 60 years.

Shirley is survived by her four children, Sandy (Doug) Parker of Marysville, Ohio, Julie (Paul) Ivancik of Butler, Steven Schweizer of Tarentum, Pa. and Karl Schweizer of Valencia; grandchildren, Lauren Mange, Shannon Long, Theresa Ivancik, Sarah Paserba, Ryan Ivancik, Jennifer Schweizer, Catherine Schweizer and Stefanie Elder; and seven great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Hammel; and wonderful companion, Thomas Veltri; and her four brothers and two sisters.

Shirley loved her family more than anything in life and enjoyed the outdoors, reading, cooking, baking and traveling.

HAMMEL — Friends of Shirley D. (Herzer) Hammel, who died Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at KING FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 2841 Woodland Circle, Allison Park.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Mark the Evangelical Parish, Holy Sepulcher Church, 1304 Cruikshank Road, Butler.

Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Gardens in Cheswick.
