Mars woman accused of crashing vehicle, DUI with juvenile passenger

A Mars woman was accused of driving under the influence with a child in the car and rear-ending another vehicle, according to charges filed Monday, March 4.

Brittany L. Graeves, 35, was charged with felonies child endangerment and DUI, misdemeanor DUI, and a speeding citation after Adams Township police responded to a crash at the CVS on Pittsburgh Street in Mars.

At 3:47 p.m. Monday, police said Graeves was traveling east on Route 228 in a Jeep Cherokee when she attempted to get into the left turning lane to turn onto Pittsburgh Street. Documents showed Graeves rear-ended a vehicle stopped in the turning lane. There was a juvenile passenger in Graeves’ vehicle at the time of the crash, police said.

Police arrived on scene four minutes after the crash and said they found Graeves showed signs of impairment, including slurred speech, unsteady gait and glassy eyes.

Field sobriety tests showed Graeves was impaired, and the scent of alcohol was detected on her person, police said.

According to documents, a breath test conducted just after 5 p.m. at the Adams Township police station showed Graeves’ blood alcohol content at 0.195%. In Pennsylvania, the legal limit is 0.08%.

Graeves was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $10,000. Her preliminary hearing before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz is scheduled March 13.
