Butler NAMI offers Family-to-Family program

Family, friends and significant others of those living with a mental health condition can receive education and support at a free program held over 8 weeks.

The Butler chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness has announced its spring session of the Family-to-Family program, which will be offered free from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each Wednesday from March 6 to April 24, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 501 E. Main St., Evans City.

The classes are designed to empower participants through an informative and supportive environment.

NAMI's Family-to-Family program is an evidence-based initiative that covers a range of topics, including understanding diagnoses, treatment options, crisis management, communication techniques, and self-care.

It offers participants a profound understanding of mental health and the means to navigate the challenges it presents, according to a news release from the alliance.

One participant of a past Family-to-Family program said the course was the single-most helpful and informative program she encountered while spending years searching for answers in dealing with her brother.

She added that thanks to the program, she can better understand and communicate more effectively with her brother.

The alliance invites all who love someone with a mental health condition to sign up for the classes so they can help themselves while supporting their loved one.

“As we spring forward into a season of growth and renewal, we invited families to take part in an experience that could change the trajectory of their loved one’s journey with mental health,” said Donna Lamison, executive director of Butler County’s NAMI chapter. “Our Family-to-Family program is more than just an educational course. It is a lifeline, a source of hope, and a means to a more understanding and supportive family dynamic.”

All materials for the classes also are free.
