Big 3rd quarter lifts Knoch girls

Knoch outscored Derry Area 20-2 in the third quarter to break the game open, then cruised to a 60-34 girls basketball win on the road Monday night.

Karlee Buterbaugh scored a season-high 19 points for the Knights (10-7, 5-4). Neah Ewing had 11 points and Naturelle Ewing 10. No Derry player reached double figures.

Knoch visits Neshannock on Tuesday night for a non-section game.

North Catholic 52, Greensburg Salem 41 — Alayna Rocco netted 27 points for the Trojanettes, who won their 101st consecutive section game. Lauren Reitz added 12 points.

North Catholic built a steady lead throughout, winning each quarter by the margin of one to five points.

Highlands 47, Freeport 28 — Tessa Keller scored 11 points for the Yellowjackets, who were outscored 16-4 in the second quarter. Jaden Gaillot added seven points.

Kalleigh Nerone scored 16 points for Highlands.

North Clarion 59, Union/A-Valley 22 — Maddy Dehart scored eight points, grabbed seven rebounds and had four steals for Union/A-C Valley, but the Falcon Knights dropped 59-22 decision at home. Nevaeh Smith contributed six points and four rebounds.

Lily Homan led North Clarion with 18 points while Akeela Greenawalt added 12.

Boys Basketball

Ryan Ceh scored 20 points and Austen Wroblewski added 10 for Mars, which dropped a 56-45 decision to Allderdice on Sunday.

The Planets held Allderdice to four points in the first quarter, but were outscored 39-15 in the middle two periods to fall behind by 21 entering the final quarter.

Swimming

Mollie Massella won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly while Raely FaJohn claimed the 100 free and 100 backstroke in the Slippery Rock girls’ 112-55 victory over Grove City.

The Rockets swept all three relays as well. Tessa Szymanski won the 200 individual medley, Season Grant the 500 free and Kaitlyn Parsons the 100 breaststroke for the Rockets.

Cody Hartle won the 500 freestyle for the SR boys in a 98-38 loss to Grove City.
