Butler boys win big at indoor track opener Saturday
Butler’s boys had numerous first place finishers as the Tri-State Track Coaches Association opened the indoor season Saturday at Penn West Edinboro University.
Orein McBride-Cager won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 3 inches, already qualifying for the PA Indoor State Championships. The boys 4x200 relay of David Graef, Kevin Shriver, Aaron Stebick and Landon Lacey won with a time of 1 minute, 31.83 seconds, one of the best times in the state thus far.
Lacey won the 400 meters in 51.38 seconds, Ethan Thomas the 3,000 meters in 9:28.82. The 4x400 relay team of Griffin Bauer, Jacob Fallecker, Mark Klemz and Regan Peth also took first place.
On the girls side, Butler’s Aubrey Rock won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 9 inches.

Girls Basketball
Alayna Rocco scored 16 points, sinking five treys, as North Catholic rolled past Valley on the road, 70-18.
Sarah Loughry scored 13 points for the Trojanettes, Lauren Mihm 11 and Lauren Reitz 10.
The Trojanettes (7-4) 41-9 at halftime and 60-11 through three quarters in winning their fourth in a row.
Seneca Valley 47, Pine-Richland 41 — The Raiders (10-2, 3-0) won their 10th straight game as Natalie Hambly scored 16 points and Makayla Canty added 14.
Savasky led Pine-Richland with 26 points.
SV travels to North Allegheny on Thursday night.
Greensburg Salem 43, Knoch 39 — Naturelle Ewing scored 18 points for the Knights (6-5, 2-2). Knoch took a six-point lead into the fourth quarter, but was outscored 16-6 in the final eight minutes.
Kaitlyn Mankins scored 14 points for Greensburg Salem.
Knoch hosts Valley at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Boys Basketball
Andrew Zepeda scored 19 points and Chason Rugg 18 for Moniteau as the Warriors scored a 72-61 win over Cranberry on Monday night.
Cole Findlay scored 23 points and Ethan Merryman 21 for Cranberry.

Swimming
Slippery Rock split its dual meet with Titusville, the girls winning 96-76, the boys dropping a 118-24 decision.
Mollie Massella won the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly for the Rockets. Tessa Szymanski won the 200 individual medley and 500-yard freestyle, Raely FaJohn the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.
The Rocket girls swept the relays as well.
On the boys side, Cody Hartle won the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke for Slippery Rock.
