Work in progress

A state Department of Transportation project is ongoing on Route 68 in Chicora on Friday, where crews have been working for months to replace the bridge over Buffalo Creek. Crews first built a temporary bypass to carry traffic over the creek at the south end of Main Street between Landmark Alley and Medical Center Road, said Mayor Tom Steighner. Once the new bridge is complete, the bypass will be removed. The $2.6 million project began in February. Steighner did not know when it will be completed. Although detours were required for motorists to access a handful of borough businesses, Steighner said traffic issues have been minimal during the project.
