Richard Duggan

Duggan

Richard P. Duggan, 66, of Cranberry Township, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023.

Born Dec. 30, 1956, in Kearny, N.J., he was the son of the late Ruth F. Duggan and Charles E. Duggan.

Rich was proudly raised in the great state of West Virginia. Rich was an exceptional athlete. He excelled at Parkersburg High School as an all-state catcher in baseball and two time all-state quarterback in football, graduating in 1975. Rich earned a scholarship to play football for the West Virginia Mountaineers; he was recruited as a quarterback and developed into a wide-receiver and tight end. In 1978, Rich earned the Ira A. Rodgers MVP award, and in 1979 he proudly served as one of the four West Virginia University captains.

While at WVU, Rich met the love of his life, Elaine (Tonarelli), and they married in 1983. Rich and Elaine moved to the Pittsburgh area — where Rich began a 40-year career as a pharmaceutical sales representative — and raised their family. Rich enjoyed supporting his children and the community to develop and coach the next generation of kids. He supported the CTAA through various coaching and volunteering opportunities.

Later he proudly served as a PIAA official for baseball, basketball and football. Rich was an inductee to the Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 2007, Wood County Sports Hall of Fame in 2009 and Parkersburg High School Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

Rich loved God and was a faithful, devoted Catholic who served as a lector for St. Ferdinand Church. Rich adored his family, spending countless hours on ball fields and enjoying many vacations to the beach. He loved the ocean. He was a man with a huge heart and a beautiful smile, and he was full of life. Rich was a loving husband, proud father, brother, “Pop-Pop,” “Opa,” uncle and dear friend. He touched and inspired so many, and his legacy will live on through those he coached, mentored and loved.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Elaine; his children, Edward (Amanda) Zimmermann, Dominick (Kim-Marie) Duggan, Zach (Alyssa) Duggan, Katie Duggan and Joseph (Paige) Duggan; grandchildren, Rayne, Lyric, Asa and Finn Zimmermann and Nora, Evelyn, Sophia, Walker and Adalyn Duggan; siblings, Kathy (Edward) Roedersheimer, Chuck (Chris) Duggan and Barbie (Trey) Mace; and many nieces and nephews.

DUGGAN — Friends of Richard P. Duggan, who died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the BOYLAN-GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Divine Grace Parish, St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, 2535 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township, with the Rev. John P. Gallagher officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Rich’s honor to Miracle League — Southwestern PA (https://www.mlswpa.org/donate) or San Diego, Calif.
