Ranaweera, Snow headed to states

Seneca Valley senior Lihini Ranaweera placed third at the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Golf Championship, which concluded Wednesday at Diamond Run Golf Club in Sewickley.

Ranaweera shot an 80 in last week’s first round and carded a 79 Wednesday for a total of 159, good enough to advance her to the state championship at Penn State University Oct. 16-17.

SV’s Madison Sharek placed eighth, one spot shy of a guaranteed berth to states. She is the WPIAL’s alternate after tallying 171 strokes (80-91).

Elizabeth Forward’s Mya Morgan won the district title with a 146 (75-71).

In Class 2A, Freeport senior Lillie Snow placed fourth to qualify for states.

Snow followed up her 92 in the first round with a 96 on Wednesday for a total of 188.

Neshannock’s Sophia Covelli won the championship with a 174.

Girls Soccer

Karns City earned a 4-2 victory over Saint Marys, with Phoebe Brandon, Bree O'Donnell, Sophia Bonetto and Hanna Dailey each finding the net.

Slippery Rock 7, Sharon 0 — Aiva Reich led the Rockets with three goals.

Also scoring in the win were Emily Plyler, Shareen Thangiah, Shannon Stanley and Anna Coyle.

Seneca Valley 5, Pine-Richland 0 — Karly Majeski scored twice for the Raiders (10-1-1, 8-1-1), while Ayla Ward, Maddie Marcotte and Ashlee Libby each scored once.

Butler 4, Taylor Allderdice 0 — The Golden Tornado (8-6, 6-5) received goals from Ella Rekich, Leah Weiland, Malina McElroy and Madison Rose.

Cross Country

Karns City, AC Valley/Union and Keystone ran against each other, with KC’s Miley Mooney winning the girls race with a time 23 minutes, 42 seconds.

The Gremlins’ Adylyn Jones was second, AC Valley/Union’s Lydia Opp was third. Keystone’s Jonathan Hansford won the boys race with a time of 18:08, followed by Karns City’s Noah Weiland and Dillan Stroup.

Team scores were not recorded.

Girls Tennis

Knoch’s senior duo of Emily Greb and Lindsey Greb advanced to the WPIAL Class 2A Doubles Championship after winning two matches at Bethel Park High School.

The sisters, seeded No. 1, received a first-round bye before downing Central Valley’s Rachel Hardek/Sara Miloszewski (10-1) and Montour’s Peja Cruise/Raven Karlik (6-1, 6-0).

The Grebs will face Greensburg Central Catholic’s Sasha Hoffman/Stella Bosser for the title at 1 p.m. Thursday at North Allegheny High School.

Playing in a consolation match for the third and final berth to the state tournament will be North Catholic’s Katie Hardy/Brea Kelly, who lost to Hoffman and Bosser in the semifinals (5-7, 6-2, 6-4).

Knoch’s other doubles team of Jade Nether/Lara Ejzak won a match before losing to Hoffman and Bosser in the quarterfinals (10-7).

Seneca Valley earned a 3-2 win over Hampton, with the doubles teams of Marlee Jones/Anna Coon and Lily Wood/Alaina Brody both coming out on top.

The Raiders finish the regular season with a 10-7 record and will compete in the WPIAL Class 3A team tournament next week.

Girls Volleyball

Ella Nicotra, Rylee Wooldridge and Cecilia Christie combined for 24 kills as Mars swept Lincoln Park.
