Tornado volleyball improves to 5-1

Audrey Lehman dropped 17 kills, tallied 17 digs and served four aces to pace Butler’s girls volleyball team to a 3-1 win at home against Pine-Richland on Thursday.

The Golden Tornado (5-1) also received 15 kills from Sarah Szebalskie, 16 digs out of Sarah Lucas and 45 assists courtesy of Molly Wogan.

Butler downed the Rams by scores of 25-18, 18-25, 25-19 and 25-22.

Grove City 3, Moniteau 0 — Lily Staab tallied four kills and three aces for the Warriors.

Davina Pry added five kills and Allie Pry six digs for Moniteau, which fell by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-19.

Karns City 3, A-C Valley 2 — The Gremlins started and finished strong in this 25-8, 25-21, 23-25, 17-25, 15-4 victory over the visiting Falcons.

Ava Fox had 16 kills in the win, Kendall Ritzert 16 assists and Cayley Craig six aces, three kills and three digs. Naomi Venesky added five kills.

Lexi Altman had 15 assists for the Falcons (2-3) and Bella Ielase finished with seven kills and seven digs.

Maddy Dehart played well in defeat with five kills and 13 digs. Colleen Verostek posted eight digs.

Knoch 3, Blackhawk 0 — Brynne Smith served for 12 points while teammates Karlee Buterbaugh (11) and Sierra Mock (6) combined for 17 kills.

The Knights (5-1, 3-0) swept the Cougars by scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-21.

North Catholic 3, Mars 1 — Lily Javor and Ella Nicotra both had 12 kills for the Planets. Cecilia Christy led the defensive effort with 12 blocks and Alaina Graham contributed 16 digs.

No stats were reported for the Trojanettes, who won the match by scores of 25-18, 25-16, 24-26 and 25-17.

Seneca Valley 3, Shaler 2 — No other details were reported from this win for the Raiders.

Boys Golf

Seneca Valley’s Tyler Garvin shot a 1-under 31 at Clover Hill Golf Course to pace the Raiders in a 174-195 win over North Hills.

After carding a bogey on two of the first three holes, Garvin had three consecutive birdies.

Anthony Cardosi and Vinci Villella both added a 35 for SV.

Logan Filipcic fired a 38 for the Indians.

Freeport 197, Deer Lakes 228 — The Yellowjackets (14-1, 13-0) continued their dominant season with this victory on the back-9 at Buffalo Golf Course.

Lillie Snow and Cam Zigo both had a 38 for Freeport.

District 10 — In the final Region 2 match of the season, Slippery Rock totaled 384 strokes to finish fifth out of six teams at Tanglewood Golf Course.

Trent Davey led the Rockets with an 85, followed by Kolby Schooley (96), Parker Dalcamo (99) and Nick Alter (104).

West Middlesex’s Caden Bender earned medalist honors with a 72. Grove City placed first as a team with 338 strokes.

Boys Soccer

After falling behind to Shaler in the first half, Seneca Valley dominated the rest of the way in a 6-1 defeat of the Titans at NexTier Stadium.

Cole Kamarec scored three times while Tyler Mazanek, Evan Howard and Tyler Holloway each added a goal for the Raiders (8-0, 6-0). Holloway’s tally came on a penalty kick.

Butler 2, Fox Chapel 0 — Nick Niebauer and Thomas Sheptak both scored for the Golden Tornado (5-2-1, 4-2).

Mason Anderson had one assist. Drew Knight was in net for the shutout.

Knoch 12, Leechburg 0 — Sam Caldwell led the avalanche of offense with three goals as the Knights (4-5, 4-2) overwhelmed the host Blue Devils.

Also scoring for the Knights was Matthew Welsh, Will Parisi, Will Schwalm, Jordan Auther, Evan Haas, Barrett Duffy, Liam Avon, Austin Friedline and Tony Lajevic.
