SV girls lax falls in playoff

Seneca Valley’s girls lacrosse team held a 2-1 lead after 12 minutes of play in Monday’s WPIAL Class 3A first-round playoff at Canon-McMillan, but the Big Macs found their groove on offense in posting a 15-6 victory.

Canon-McMillan advances to play Fox Chapel in a quarterfinal on Wednesday.

No other details were reported.

Baseball

Sal Mineo and Austan Runtas combined to shut out Conneaut on just four hits in Slippery Rock’s 9-0 win against the visiting Eagles.

Mineo started the game on the mound, struck out eight and walked two while allowing two hits. Runtas worked the final three innings for the save.

Dylan Gordon paced the Rockets (11-5) at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and one RBI.

Brett Galcik, Brody Galcik and Dom Zandi each had two hits. Brett Galcik’s day included two runs scored and three RBI.

Softball

A-C Valley/Union swept a doubleheader against Keystone, defeating the Panthers by scores of 10-0 in five innings and 18-4 in six innings.

Mackenzie Parks earned the pitching win with complete games in both contests, striking out seven and four, respectively.

She hit a two-run home run in the first game and a three-run blast in the nightcap.

Bella Ielase had a single, double and two RBI in the first game while Kya Wetzel had a pair of hits and three RBI.

Lexi Bauer tallied four hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs in the second victory. Maddy DeHart singled twice, tripled and scored four runs for the Falcon Knights (11-6, 5-2).

On the day, A-C Valley/Union out-hit Keystone 30-8.
