Two area students won scholarships recently from Indiana (Pa.) University.

Katelyn Hanson of Sarver is the 2007 recipient of the Donna Streifthau Scholarship, awarded to interior design majors in their junior year of study.The daughter of Nancy and Harlan Hanson, she is a 2005 graduate of Knoch High School. She is a member of the Campus Crusade for Christ group at IUP.

Amanda Rae O'Connor of Evans City is the 2007 recipient of the M. Jane Segar Longenecker Scholarship, awarded to child development/family relations and family and consumer science majors.The daughter of Mary and Judy O'Connor, she is a 2004 graduate of Seneca Valley High School. She participates in IUP volleyball and was selected for Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honors Fraternity and the National Honors Scholars Society at IUP.Awards were based on character, academic achievement and a commitment to community life through volunteer service.———

Jeffrey Mitch of Butler has been accepted for admission to Saint Vincent College for the fall 2008 semester. He plans to major in management and communication.The son of Raymond and Carol Mitch, he is a member of Youth and Government, marching band and yearbook at Butler High School, where he is set to graduate in 2008.He is also a member of the Diocese of Pittsburgh resource team, Conference on National Affairs and a Nextier Junior Bank board member.
