Kelly announces Northern Border Security Caucus

U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-16th, joined Rep. Ryan Zinke, R-Mont., in announcing the Northern Border Security Caucus, a coalition of 28 Republican members of Congress who are concerned with human and drug trafficking and security along the U.S.-Canada border.

Kelly and Zinke will serve as co-chairmen on the caucus, which took its first official action Tuesday, Feb. 28, in sending a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

The group warned Mayorkas of “surging human and drug trafficking from Canada into the United States,” according to a statement released by Kelly, and demanded that he secure the northern border.

The letter outlines their concerns over U.S. Border Patrol agent staffing, illegal immigration and drug smuggling along the border. It concludes by asking Mayorkas for a “full account” of what the Department of Homeland Security plans to do to address their concerns.
