Butler Police

12:22 p.m. Sunday — Cars driven by Karen Sheptak, 68, and Jon A. Frederick, 34, both of Butler, collided at West Brady and North Chestnut streets.

12:09 p.m. Sunday — James V. Johnson, 44, of Butler was hurt when a car struck his car at East Locust and North Elm streets. Johnson, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. Beverly A. Fulton, 59, of Butler, the other driver, was cited for a stop sign violation and driving without insurance.

5:08 p.m. Saturday — A child was injured in a one-car wreck on snow-covered Charles Street. The crash happened when Nemesio T. Guzman, 31, of Butler lost control of the car, skidding off the road and traveling into a yard in the 400 block of Charles Street.

The car hit a fence, slid down an embankment and turned partially on its side while overhanging on a retaining wall in the yard.

Police noted that five children who were riding in the car were either not wearing seat belts or not in safety seats. One of the children was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The car's tires, according to a police report, were nearly bald and the vehicle had an expired inspection sticker.

Police said Guzman was cited for not having the children properly restrained and for an inspection violation.

9:27 a.m. Saturday — Two people were hurt when a sport utility vehicle driven by Gerard Conroy 50, of Sarver slid off snow-covered Morton Avenue and crashed into a utility pole. Conroy and his passenger, Otto Conroy, 12, of Sarver, were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

7:12 p.m. Friday — Virginia Goettler, 79, of Butler refused medical treatment for minor injuries when a city bus bumped her on West Wayne Street.

Goettler and her husband had just left nearby Natili's restaurant when a Butler Transit Authority bus crested a hill and hit her, according to a police report.

The driver, John Thompson, 62, of Hilliards, told police that he was unable to avoid the accident. The police report noted that Goettler and her husband were wearing dark clothing.

Thompson and six passengers on the bus were uninjured.

Friday — Police filed a theft charge against Michael Paul Jason Chute, 34, of Butler after he allegedly stole $100 from an elderly woman under false pretenses Tuesday on Avon Drive. Chute is charged with theft by deception.

3:45 p.m. Saturday — Corona Lamberto, 64, of Butler was hurt when she lost control of her car on snow-covered Route 8, striking an embankment and road sign in Slippery Rock Township. Lamberto, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.12:50 a.m. Saturday — Nathan T. Reinhart, 22, of Butler suffered minor injuries when his car hit an embankment and rolled onto its roof on Route 38 about two-tenths of a mile north of Rider Road in Concord Township. Reinhart, who was wearing a seat belt, was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital.Saturday — Two parked vehicles were damaged in a hit-and-run crash at the Village apartment complex in Slippery Rock Township. The unknown driver between 2 and 9 a.m. hit one car, which in turn was pushed into a sport utility vehicle. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.Friday — An unknown burglar stole $700 in unspecified property from a home on Dittmer Road in Summit Township. The break-in happened between midnight Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday.7:19 a.m. Thursday — A minivan driven by John P. Dudas, 70, of Sarver slid on ice and rear-ended a sport utility vehicle that was stopped on Brownsdale Road in Forward Township. Stephanie A. Maust, 51, of Butler was driving the SUV.Tuesday — A BB rifle, two BB pistols and a stereo speaker box were among the items stolen from a shed in a burglary at a home in the 1500 block of Route 308 in Cherry Township. The break-in happened between Jan. 27 and Tuesday.8:25 a.m. Jan. 28 — Cars driven by Matthew L. Bell, 19, of Harrisville and Tracy L. Fassinger, 43, of Slippery Rock collided on Route 173 just south of Sankey Lane in Slippery Rock Township. Bell's car, following the collision, hit a minivan driven by Susan R. Whiteman, 46, of Grove City.Whiteman, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered moderate injuries. Police said Bell was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

7:31 p.m. Saturday — Kenneth Lee Gratzinger, 50, of Emlenton was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his vehicle struck a guardrail on Interstate 80 in Clinton Township, Venango County.When troopers got to the crash they found Gratzinger and another man seated on the guardrail with a case of beer and a beef brisket, according to a police report.Gratzinger allegedly gave the officers a false name. But police eventually learned his identity. They also learned that he was wanted on 12 warrants, many if not all in Butler County.The suspect was placed in the Venango County Jail, where Butler County sheriff's deputies were to pick him up for the warrants they have on him.

9:15 a.m. Sunday — A car driven by Timothy L. Klingensmith, 59, of Grove City struck a tree after sliding off snow-covered Fairgrounds Road at Swartz Road in Stoneboro. Police said Klingensmith was cited for driving too fast for conditions.Wednesday — An unspecified amount of money was stolen from a Grove City woman's unlocked vehicle while she was in Grove City or the Harrisville area between noon and 9:30 p.m.
