Police: Woman left child alone in unlocked car for 30 minutes in Adams Township

A New Castle woman reportedly left a 9-month-old infant in a car unattended for about 30 minutes while cleaning a business in Adams Township, police said.

Anita Marie Keene, 27, was charged Thursday, Nov. 13, with felony child endangerment and misdemeanor resisting arrest following a Wednesday evening incident.

Police said they were dispatched to an alarm call for a business on Clay Avenue Extension and found the baby alone inside a running Nissan SUV with loud music playing and the doors unlocked.

Police said they could not locate a driver after searching the immediate area and knocking on the front door of the business.

During the incident, a cellphone inside the vehicle rang multiple times. Police answered one of the calls and spoke with a man who claimed Kenne was inside the business cleaning.

After about 10 minutes, police said Keene exited the business and was uncooperative. Police said she refused commands and attempted to pull away while being placed in handcuffs.

Keene reportedly told police she had left the baby in the car for about 30 minutes. She said she left the baby unattended because it was sleeping.

Keene is being held in Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Nov. 19 before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz.
