Glimmer of Hope to host 5K fundraising race in North Park

The Glimmer of Hope Foundation, a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit dedicated to breast cancer awareness, is hosting the Race to Beat Breast Cancer on Saturday, Oct. 5, in Allison Park.

The race is a 5K run/walk that will wind through the trails of North Park. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the Glimmer of Hope Foundation, which has given $6 million to support breast cancer research and health initiatives since its inception in 1994.

“Supporting the metastatic breast cancer community is a cause close to my heart,” said Glimmer of Hope founder Diana Napper in a news release. “Many of these brave individuals are young women with small children, and our mission is to provide them with comfort, compassion and unwavering support as we work toward a cure for breast cancer.”

On-site registration and pre-race activities will start at 8 a.m., with the race beginning at 9 a.m. All runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels are welcome, and all participants will receive an official “Women of Steel” Steelers Terrible Towel.

The race is still accepting sign-ups through runsignup.com. Online registration is $25 per person.
