Mars Class of 1947 holds 76th reunion
ADAMS TWP — Still standing together for their alma mater are six members of the Mars Area High School Class of 1947.
The graduates gathered for their 76th annual reunion Saturday, Sept. 16, at Luciano’s Italian Brick Oven in Adams Township.
Those who attended as part of the class, which graduated 108 students, were Marjorie Rinaman, Janet Hull, Dorothy Meeder, Edwin Miller, Helen Dunbar, and John Utz. Most brought a family member or friend along with them.
Rinaman organizes the reunion every year, with the help of two others.
“There's three of us on a committee, and we get our heads together,” Rinaman said. “Our class is diminishing, but we’re here … so I thank everybody for coming.”
Earl Forsythe, who attended along with Rinaman, brought decorative cookies with the 1947 written on them.
Utz, along with most of the class, still are fond of both the school and the area despite the many changes over the years. After Utz’s graduation, many of his family followed him in going to Mars High School, including his brother and two sisters.
“We're all in our 90s, but we love Mars. Most of all, we love Pennsylvania,” Utz said. “I've had three kids and 10 grandkids go to Mars. So we like the area.”
