Pa. coal history detailed in upcoming event
Author Sara Bloom’s book “ISELIN — The Rich History of a Western Pennsylvania Coal Town in Appalachia” will be discussed at a meet-and-greet and book signing from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Armstrong County Historical Museum and Genealogical Society, 300 N. McKean St., Kittanning.
Bloom will talk about her hometown of Iselin, Indiana County, which is a coal town of 500 residents, and the changes made to correct the unacceptable living conditions of its coal miners and their families.
Bloom’s book will be for sale and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the historical society.
The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available behind the museum, and on Vine and McKean streets.
