For as long as I can remember, I’ve associated each of the four seasons with certain types of music.

I’m not sure where this started, if it was learned or adapted to become part of who I am. I make a playlist (or, as I still call it, a mixtape) four times a year, throwing different songs on to see if they stick.

For example, certain artists will always be summer, like Simon and Garfunkel, and autumn will always be Taylor Swift (who has an album coming out tomorrow, by the way).

Perhaps all of this started growing up in Butler, where music is part of community gatherings and Sunday matinees. You can go to any brewery on the weekend to hear a local band, attend a show at the numerous theaters, or attend a symphony concert.

On Friday, the first Butler Ghost Walk takes participants on a 90-minute tour of the town’s scariest sites. Meet at 7:30 p.m. at Diamond Park in Butler to hear tales of the haunted elevator, the ghosts of the old hospital and more. For a full schedule of tours, visit ButlerGhostWalk.com.

Haunted Trails at Alameda Park is for all ages Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tours leave every ten minutes from the Masonic shelter at 184 Alameda Park Road, and half of the proceeds benefit Prayers Answered Charity Tournaments.

The fourth annual Monster Bash Halloween Open House for the Toastmasters will meet at 8: 30 a.m. Saturday in the Butler YMCA Trustees Room, 339 North Washington St. Enjoy food, meet the members and learn more about what Toastmasters has to offer. Due to the Halloween theme, all are encouraged to wear a costume.

The Saxonburg community will gather to commemorate the 185th anniversary of the Saxonburg Memorial Church, 100 West Main St., from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Seven Fields’ Boo Bash Trunk or Treat event lasts from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Seven Fields Town Park on Castle Creek Drive. Children should come dressed for the spooky occasion.

Breakthrough Butler invites you to try and outrun the ghosts and goblins at Phantom Gardens from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Show up to Butler Athletic Field, Cunningham St., at 6 p.m. to register. For information, contact breakthroughbutler@gmail.com.

It’s Conservation Day at Glade Run Lake on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Glade Run Lake, Lake Road, Valencia. There will be free demonstrations for the public, as well as auctions, outdoor booths, food and more.

Whitestown Road Baptist Church invites the community to its seventh annual Chili Cookoff from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Bring your spoon to 409 Whitestown Road for the free sampling event.

The Faculty and Guest Artist Dance Concert at Slippery Rock University features more than 75 students dancing, coordinating and working alongside French-Canadian choreographer Helen Simoneau. The Justin Dow Memorial Ride and Poker Run to benefit the Dow family happens on Sunday. Meet at Fisher’s Bar and Grill, 131 Main St., Zelienople, for 9 a.m. registration, coffee and donuts. Kickstands up at 11 a.m. Following the ride there will be a 50/50 raffle, food and poker hands.
