Kennywood’s April 22 opening day could be put on hold as Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala said Friday, March 24, that the park is not safe and that he will go to court to block opening day unless security measures that his office recommended are adopted.

Zappala said during a news conference that his office made safety recommendations to the park after last fall's shooting that left three people injured.

Some of the actions Zappala’s office is demanding includes doubling the number of officers, removing trees along a fence line that impedes security cameras, high-intensity security lighting installations and new cameras.

A 15-year-old was originally charged with the shooting before a judge dismissed the case and as of today, no one is facing charges in the shooting.

Kennywood has implemented a new bag policy and all guests, team members and management must pass through a weapons detection system at the entrance gate.

After the shooting, Kennywood has also stated all guests under 18-years-old must be accompanied by an adult older than 21 at all times.
