A pilot program that allows unemployment compensation claimants to have in-person appointments will become permanent in the PA CareerLink offices where the program was tested, including in Butler.

A news release from the state Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) on Thursday, March 16, 2023, announced that UC Connect, the in-person appointment program, was so successful at the state’s 58 CareerLink offices that it was made permanent.

Butler County’s PA CareerLink office is at 112 Hollywood Drive, Suite 203, in the Pullman Center Business Park off Hansen Avenue.

L&I launched UC Connect on a test basis in May 2022 through in-person unemployment claim appointments at the state’s PA CareerLink offices.

“Pennsylvania workers deserve a reliable unemployment compensation system that meets its obligation as a true safety net — and that starts with excellent customer service,” said Nancy Walker, acting L&I secretary.

She said the program was made permanent not only because claimants appreciated the in-person help with their unemployment issues, but because it has empowered L&I staff to engage on a deeper level with claimants and provide more effective customer service.

UC Connect is designed for claimants who do not have proper technology, equipment or technical skills; those without access to home internet or broadband; and those with limited proficiency in the English language, the news release said.
