Drive-in movie theaters, swimming pools, tennis courts and walking trails will get their share of use this weekend as county residents enjoy the weather.
Local artists, performers and community groups are making a splash with activities and events galore. If you’re looking for something different to see or experience, read the offerings below.
SummerFest in Sarver at the Farmhouse Wedding and Event Space, 128 Parker Road, will be a paradise for beer and wine connoisseurs. Music, food trucks and alcohol artisans will be on the property showcasing their best for the over 21 year-old crowd from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and other dates throughout the summer. Jessica Sanzotti and Friends will perform show tunes and pop pieces for the first installment of Butler County Symphony’s Free Summer Concert series. The show can be streamed via the Symphony’s Facebook page or enjoyed at the office site at 259 S. Main St. in Butler from noon to 1 p.m. Friday.
Artisan Saturday in Harmony is every Saturday in June on Main and Mercer streets, but this weekend marks the first of the season! Vendors will set up in the open air selling goods from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Historic Harmony begins their eighth annual Wine Walk at 5 p.m. Saturday. Fifteen different wineries, multiple gourmet vendors and five music groups will be set up along the tour. Cranberry Artists Network’s Back Hall Gallery, 2525 Rochester Road, will feature artists Monica Jarold Hietsch and Debra Zuzindlak Tobin for the entire month of June. A public artists reception will take place in the gallery from noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Contribute to the female veteran organization Robin’s Home by attending the Comedy for Cause event from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at American Legion Post 778, 150 Legion Memorial Lane. With your ticket comes dinner at 6 p.m. and a show to follow, featuring three performers from Slapstick Productions. Guests must be age 21 or older, or accompanied by a parent if under 21 years old. The Butler Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, invites children to read to cats at 11 a.m. Sunday for the Shelter Buddies Reading Program. The activity promotes children’s reading cognition as well as gives the animals some extra love! To sign up for a 30 minute slot, call 724-789-1150.
The Butler YMCA is hosting a car cruise event at ARMCO Park, 341 Centerville Pike, Slippery Rock, from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Endless vehicles, raffles and a DJ will be present and accounted for to keep the party going.
Come out and vote for the best chicken wings in Butler County at the Beacon Hotel’s WingFest, 231 Beacon Road, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Category winners will receive prizes. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Get ‘em while they’re hot!
The Playthings Etc. Summer Treasure Hunt is back Monday through July Fourth! Follow the spaceship store’s Facebook page for riddles and clues dropped at random times. Clues will lead you to gift cards of $25 or more hidden within a 20 mile radius from the store in public spaces. This is fun for the whole family and a challenge for the mind, as the gift cards can be hidden in parks, libraries, or even underwater! Butler Musical Theatre Guild’s production of “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” has tickets on sale now. The show runs June 17, 18 19, 24 and 25 at the William A. The Freeport Theatre Festival’s Junior Drama Camp runs from June 20 to 24 and is taking applications. Children ages 8 to 12 can participate in the camp at 2498 White Cloud Road, Leechburg, just outside Freeport, and learn the arts from experienced educators. The deadline to sign up is June 15.
