Vida MacMurdo Sweeney, 86, of Freedom, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, at Allegheny General Hospital.

Born in Ellwood City on April 22, 1936, Vida was the daughter of the late Isman “Easy” and Ursuline “Sue” Rubino Mariotti.

Vida graduated from Lincoln High School and Geneva College.

She taught kindergarten at B.V.M. School in Ellwood City, was a past president of the Ellwood City Municipal Women’s Club, and a former member of the Connoquenessing Country Club, where she enjoyed golfing with her friends. She owned and operated Lady Vi’s clothing store in Volant for over 20 years.

Vida was a longtime member of St. Kilian Parish in Cranberry Township.

Vida is survived by her husband, Leo Sweeney of Freedom; her children, Paul and Maureen MacMurdo of Ellwood City, Michael and Mary MacMurdo of Glen Ridge, N.J., Beth and Andrew Verone of Beaver; two stepchildren, Elizabeth and David Rykaczewski of Wexford, and Margaret and Brendan Nelligan of Oak Park, Ill.; her sister, Sondra and Paul Ammeen of Hilton Head, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, Vida was preceded in death by her first husband, Brian MacMurdo.

SWEENEY — A Mass of Christian burial for Vida MacMurdo Sweeney, who died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, was celebrated at St. Kilian Church in Cranberry Township, with the Rev. Charles Bober as celebrant.

Interment took place in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made in Vida’s name to St. Kilian’s Catholic School, 7076 Franklin Road, Cranberry Township, PA 16066.
