Friends Helping Friends fundraiser planned for Oct. 19

The Butler Breast Cancer and Women’s Cancer Support Group, in partnership with Boscov’s, is holding its annual Friends Helping Friends fundraising event to benefit the organization.

During regular store hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 19, Boscov’s shoppers can stop by the shoe department to get a $5 discount shopping pass that can be used storewide.

Boscov’s provides the $5 passes to nonprofit 501(c) and 170 (c)(1) organizations who register to participate in the annual Friends Helping Friends event. Organizations can sell the passes to their supporters and keep 100% of the $5 donation to further their causes. Shoppers in all Boscov’s stores that day can use the passes to gain access to 25% off the chain’s lowest sales prices.

“It’s our most aggressive promotion of the year, and we do it to encourage donations to the organizations so critical to the communities we serve,” said Jim Boscov, CEO and chairman, during a video on the Friends Helping Friends website. “Supporting local nonprofit organizations has always been a core value of our family. And never have our communities needed support more than they do today.”

Cheryl Schaefer, leader of the Butler Breast Cancer and Women’s Cancer Support Group, said the fundraiser is one of the largest the organization holds each year. All monies raised through the shopping passes goes toward helping women receiving cancer treatment with their expenses.

“You can give knowing that the entire $5 stays with the organization, so 100% of it is helping,” Schaefer said.
